RG34XX — Custom firmware

Quick answer

Button combo

POWER(boot CFW from TF1)

Steps

  1. 1Pick a publicly released H700 CFW with RG34XX support: muOS, Knulli, ROCKNIX, Batocera, or MinUI.
  2. 2Write the device image to a spare TF1 (OS) microSD with balenaEtcher.
  3. 3For ROCKNIX, copy sun50i-h700-anbernic-rg34xx.dtb to the root of the boot partition so the 3:2 screen displays correctly.
  4. 4Insert the CFW card in TF1 and your ROM card in TF2, then press POWER.
  5. 5Complete the CFW first-run setup; Knulli supports the RG34XX including tate (vertical) mode.

The RG34XX is supported by the major H700 community systems, so you can run muOS, Knulli, ROCKNIX, Batocera, or MinUI by writing the public image to a microSD with balenaEtcher and booting from the TF1 (OS) slot, with ROMs on TF2. Because the screen is a wide 720×480 3:2 panel, some firmware needs the correct device tree: on ROCKNIX you copy the sun50i-h700-anbernic-rg34xx.dtb file to the boot partition root, and Knulli ships RG34XX support (including tate mode) in recent releases. Each OS lives on its own card, so you can swap cards to switch systems and keep the stock card. GarlicOS for the H700 is early alpha only; use only public builds. This is a DRAFT for human review.

FAQ

Why doesn't the picture fill the 3:2 screen?
Some CFW needs the RG34XX device tree. On ROCKNIX, copy sun50i-h700-anbernic-rg34xx.dtb to the root of the boot partition; recent Knulli builds already include RG34XX support.
Can I keep the stock OS?
Yes. Write the CFW to a separate TF1 card written with balenaEtcher and swap cards; your original Anbernic OS card is untouched.
