Miyoo Mini Plus — Firmware update

Quick answer

Button combo

Onion: AppsOTA Update·Manual: copy zipSD(Merge/Replace)POWERA

Steps

  1. 1Update Onion OS over Wi-Fi: open the Apps tab and run the OTA Update app, then follow the prompts.
  2. 2Manual Onion update: download the new Onion-v4.x.x.zip and copy the 7 folders over the SD root, choosing Merge then Replace.
  3. 3Boot the device; the installer runs automatically and you press A when it finishes (it reboots).
  4. 4After updating, press SELECT on the Games tab to refresh ROMs; make in-game saves first as some save states may not survive.
  5. 5To update the base (stock) firmware itself, flash Miyoo's official firmware package per their instructions.

There are two layers to update on the Mini Plus. Onion OS itself updates either over Wi-Fi via the built-in OTA Update app, or manually by copying a newer Onion release over the card and choosing Merge / Replace so saves, ROMs and configs carry over. The base Miyoo (stock) firmware is separate and rarely changes; you only reflash it from Miyoo's official firmware download when Onion requires a newer base (the Mini Plus needs 202305052130 or later). Always make an in-game save before upgrading, because some RetroArch save states can break across versions.

FAQ

Will updating Onion OS erase my games and saves?
No. When you copy the new release over the card choose Merge then Replace, and your saves, save states, ROMs, BIOS and configs carry over. Make an in-game save first as a precaution — some save states may not load after a big version jump.
What is the difference between an Onion update and a firmware update?
Onion OS is the custom firmware on the card and updates often (OTA or manual). The base Miyoo firmware is the device's underlying system and only needs updating to meet Onion's minimum (202305052130).
OTA update failed — what now?
Fall back to the manual method: download the latest Onion-v4.x.x.zip, copy the 7 folders to the SD root (Merge / Replace), boot, and press A when the installer finishes.
