Miyoo Mini V4 — Firmware update

Quick answer

Button combo

Manual: copy new Onion zipSD(Merge/Replace)POWERA

Steps

  1. 1The V4 has no Wi-Fi, so the built-in OTA Update app does not apply — update Onion manually from a computer.
  2. 2Download the newer Onion-v4.x.x.zip from the OnionUI GitHub releases and extract it.
  3. 3Copy the 7 folders over the SD root, choosing Merge then Replace so saves, ROMs and configs carry over.
  4. 4Insert the card and press POWER; the installer runs automatically and you press A when it finishes (the Mini V4 powers off — turn it back on).
  5. 5To update the base (stock) firmware itself — e.g. for 752x560 support — flash Miyoo's official V4 firmware (202310271401 or later) per their instructions.

There are two layers to update on the V4. Onion OS itself is updated manually because the V4 has no Wi-Fi: copy a newer Onion release over the card and choose Merge / Replace so saves, ROMs and configs carry over. Onion's OTA Update app needs Wi-Fi and only works on the Mini Plus. The base Miyoo (stock) firmware is separate; you reflash it from Miyoo's official V4 firmware download when you need the newer base — notably 202310271401, which together with Onion 4.3+ enables the V4's native 752x560 resolution. Make an in-game save before upgrading, as some RetroArch save states can break across versions.

FAQ

Can the V4 use Onion's OTA (Wi-Fi) update?
No. The OTA Update app needs Wi-Fi, which the V4 does not have. Update Onion manually: copy the new Onion-v4.x.x.zip over the card (Merge / Replace) and let the installer run on boot.
Why would I update the base firmware on a V4?
To get the V4's native 752x560 resolution you need base firmware 202310271401 or later with Onion 4.3+. If your screen renders at the wrong resolution, updating the stock firmware from Miyoo usually fixes it.
Will updating Onion erase my games and saves?
No. When you copy the new release over the card choose Merge then Replace, and your saves, save states, ROMs, BIOS and configs carry over. Make an in-game save first — some save states may not load after a big version jump.
